Sanya Malhotra made her debut in the film industry in 2016 in Dangal. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film also stars Aamir Khan and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Dangal is considered as one of the best films of 2016.
The film is based on the life of former Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita who are also wrestlers. Sanya played the role of Babita in the film.
It’s Dangal which gave Sanya Malhotra name and fame. However, the actress revealed in an interview that she didn’t like her work in the film. Sanya told Hindustan Times, “I am so self-critical. I beat myself up the moment I do something wrong… So, I don’t give anyone else a chance. I don’t like my work. I didn’t like my work in Dangal, and then in Photograph, I was cribbing.”

She added, “Pataakha (2018) was the only one where I said ‘Okay, theek kiya hai’. Badhaai Ho (2018), I wasn’t happy with my work at all. So, before anyone comes up and tells me this wasn’t right, I know it. I need to stop doing that because I can be very harsh on myself.”
