Now this piece of information did end up surprising us in a big way. Insiders are reporting that Salman Khan is looking at bringing his Mental on Gandhi Jayanti i.e. 2nd October. Since this also happens to be a day when Ranbir Kapoor’s Besharam has already been confirmed, there are tongues that have started wagging, and for good reason.
“With Eid out of question, it was a matter of finding next best date for the arrival of Mental. With Hrithik Roshan walking away with Diwali for Krrish 3 and Aamir Khan’s Dhoom:3 arriving on Christmas, Salman had to look for the best possible date. Needless to say, it had to be on a holiday and the only one left was Gandhi Jayanti. Makers of Mental had no other choice”, informs our source.

One can’t discount the fact that other than Salman and Ranbir clash on this day, the film would also mean a clear face-off between Salman and Abhinav Kashyap, director of Besharam. With the two men sharing history, expect fireworks all over.

“Though Salman has never gone on record to state his displeasure about Abhinav walking out of Dabangg 2, it is not an incident that he is expected to forget soon. With Mental taking Besharam heads on, it could well spell as a challenge from Salman”, the source adds.
If at all this indeed is the case, it would be one clash that would make headlines for weeks leading to the release of two films. With Salman as the reigning superstar and Ranbir showing all signs of being the youngest superstar to take over the crown in years to come, coming together of Mental and Besharam would indeed be something to watch out for.
“One just hopes though that it doesn’t take an ugly turn, as was the case in Jab Tak Hai Jaan v/s Son Of Sardaar clash last year”, a filmmaker comments on condition of anonymity, “Agreed that Ranbir is a hot star but then there is a mile long distance between him and Salman. Unlike Shah Rukh and Ajay where the gap wasn’t as wide, the clash between Ranbir and Salman would be akin to that of David v/s Goliath. It would be heartbreaking for all involved, especially since Ranbir has managed to score such a high after Barfi! and Rockstar.”
Can one expect closed door conversations to be already taking place and a resolution arrived at pretty soon? Seems unlikely because with over six months still remaining, the ‘tamasha’ has just begun.
