Always touted as the number one heroine, she mesmerized everyone and bamboozled all with her beautiful performances, be it the prostitute act in Chameli or the bubbly effervescent character Geet from Jab We Met. But for everyone, she is the lovely Kareena Kapoor that she has always been.
At a recently held press conference in Kolkata, Koimoi caught up with Bebo and spoke about her role, and the way she has carved out a niche for herself today. It is her second outing with Imran Khan and the naughty pair has suddenly gained momentum although Kareena is a year older to Imran. “Both the films Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! are basically fun, entertaining rom-coms and our characters are sketched the way the directors have perceived the plot and the writers have made it look like. The way Shakun wrote the script of EMAET, Rihanna Briganza was older than Imran’s character. But here, I play a social activist, somebody who works in an NGO. Imran’s Sriram is pretty characterless. So somehow the script demanded me to be little older than Imran. Imran, by the way is just one year younger than me. He is as old as me. So stop making him look like a child. People have loved us in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and the chemistry that Imran and I shared is very likeable and candy floss sweet. The minute you see both of us on screen, even a person like Saif says, ‘you guys look so good and sweet together’. So it is that kind of a film,” brushed off our gorgeous diva when asked about the tentative age gap with her co-star.
She has always worked magic with her stellar acting prowess but will GTPM work its magic as well? “Well the magic of the film won’t be in the huge mammoth publicized action stunts or the heavyweight budget. There is not much of high octane special effects as well but the film has its own charm, it is just a story of two people, two characters who have a lot of fun. And among all the big films, here you have a nice refreshing film which you can watch with your family. It amazingly fits in for a 5 year old to a 50 year old as well.”
Her character Dia, reminisces of the vivaciously naughty Geet, one character that has remarkably done wonders for Kareena’s career. With strange uncanny resemblances, Dia looks a lot like Geet. But Kareena has a point to make. “Geet was a lot more childish character, she was very immature, took hasty decisions and somehow she turns up and does the right thing at the end. Dia is a lot more mature as a character and the reason why people would love me in this film is because my fans have always liked me in this desi avatar. Dia is someone who is so determined that she knows exactly what she wants and when you see the film, you would know there is no similarity. In fact, I think it will be better than Geet”, she signs off.
