The disastrous performance of Sushant Singh Rajput’s Sonchiriya has dictated the makers of Ranbir Kapoor’s Shamshera to rethink about the content of the movie. Though Sushant’s dacoit drama received rave reviews from critics and praises from the viewers too, it failed to garner the momentum at the box office.
The Abhishek Chaubey directorial was a niche in the treatment and lacked the commercial elements, which resulted in the movie’s poor business. And the final outcome of the movie has now triggered the producer Aditya Chopra to review the ongoing developments of Shamshera and more specifically the commercial viability, which too belongs to the same genre of dacoit drama.
According to the report in Bollywood Hungama, the source close to the project quotes, “Do audiences want to see dacoit dramas of the hard-core commercial kind like Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Kachche Dhaage and Heera or the more raw and real kind like Mujhe Jeene Do, Bandit Queen, and Sonchiriya? Shamshera falls between the two extremes. And although Adi (producer Aditya Chopra) has full faith in his director Karan Malhotra and actor Ranbir Kapoor, there is constant pressure to ensure box office success. After Sonchiriya, Shamshera is being re-examined”.
