Is Padmavat actually clashing with PadMan? If so, can Bollywood indeed cope up with the arrival of two major films on the same day? Is it going to be a war? Or would it all be amicable eventually?
So much is being said and written about the coming together of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film and the Akshay Kumar starrer on 25th January. While one waits to see how the situation actually unfolds over next fortnight or so, there is another film which is vying for attention, and that is Mukkabaaz.
“Since the film sees the coming together of two sensibilities, Anurag Kashyap and Aanand L. Rai, that is the reason good enough to celebrate. Former has been associated with dark films most of the times whereas latter believes in keeping things lighthearted. With Mukkabaaz, it is pretty much apparent that the entertainment quotient would be there for the audiences, albeit with distinct Anurag Kashyap style that would make it stand out,” says an insider.
The film tells the story of a Mukkabaaz [played by Vineet Kumar Singh] who falls in love with a girl [Zoya Hussain]. While his love story sees opposition from Jimmy Sheirgill, there is support that he gets from Ravi Kishan.

“It is a very distinct love story with boxing as the backdrop,” says a source attached to the film, “Moreover, it is also a musical, what with as many as seven-eight songs interspersed in the narrative. Of course, the songs here aren’t conventional Bollywood that you hear time and again; they have the distinct UP touch to them which go with the flow.”
With backing from Eros, Mukkabaaz is the first major release of 2018 and arrives this Friday. Other releases of the week are 1921 and Kaalakaandi, hence making it a film-filled weekend for audiences.
