The main issue behind the criticism was that Akshay Kumar was given a greater space in the poster than the female stars- Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Nithya Menen. Now Jagan Shakti, who is making his directorial debut with this film, spoke on the same.
In an interview with PTI Jagan said “You are going to have that because when you have seven to eight stars you are bound to have such a poster. But it is everybody’s story and everybody brings in the crowd. In the writing every role is strong.”
When asked about the casting of the film, the director revealed, “I am blessed, I have no complaints. I narrated him and he loved it. It was a blessing for me to have Akshay in my first film itself. I approached Vidya ji, I knew her when I was working on ‘Paa‘ (as an AD), I have also worked with Sonakshi on two films – ‘Akira‘ and ‘Holiday‘.”
“I approached them because I knew them well. Maybe the script was strong that everybody agreed to be part of the film.”

On the other hand, Taapsee Pannu also had a message for the people who were giving the poster flak and said that people who aren’t satisfied need to think about the same. The real truth is that the star essence is there and it is baseless to question.
She also told PTI, ”We five being a part of it just makes it go higher. But the box office wouldn’t have dropped even if we were not in the film. Pick up any of our films, the five ladies, add them together and compare the collection of the opening day of all those films with an Akshay Kumar movie…”
Taapsee Pannu has a message for the critics of the first poster of Mission Mangal which courted controversy for giving Akshay Kumar a bigger display than his women colleagues: star value is a “brutal truth” that must be accepted. Taapsee said instead of questioning the poster, people need to be the change they want to see.
