To this, Laxmi answered, “Mai Meghna ma’am se 2016 me mili thi, and unhone bola ki hum is cause pe saath me kaam karna chahte hai kyunki dekha jaye, 2013 se pehle koi bhi acid attack violence ko nahi janta tha. But jab kuch survivors bahar nikalke aaye, aur apni story ko rakhna shuru kia. Toh jab wo kaano me awaaz gayi toh aaj wo ek film ke roop me bahar aayi.

(I met Meghna (Gulzar) in 2016 and she told me that we wish to work together in this cause. Before 2013, not many people were aware about acid attack violence. But when some survivors came out in the open and shared their stories, people got to hear about it and that voice has turned into a film today)

Furthermore, she took the opportunity to thank Deepika and expressed her expectations as, “Society ko ye film ek bohot bada impact degi. Thank you, Deepika jo aapne Laxmi ka role play kiya aur mujhe bohot Khushi hai ki, aapne dikha diya ki ‘beauty important nahi hoti’. Awareness bohot jaruri thi, is cause ko bahar lana bohot zaruri tha aur kahi na kahi jo survivors victimise hoti hai, aur jo society ke dimag me tezaab hai, ye film ke through logo ke dimaag se tezaab niklega.”

(This will have a major impact on the society. Thank you, Deepika, for playing the role of Laxmi and I’m really happy that you’ve proved that beauty isn’t important. Awareness about the entire issue was really important in order to throw out the acid that has been inculcated in many minds in the society)
