Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali and producer Ekta Kapoor are coming together to recreate the classic romance. The evergreen story of Laila Majnu will be modernised and recreated with a contemporary touch.

The Jab We Met director has written the story and co-written the screenplay of the film. The film is set in modern-day Kashmir.

Laila Majnu will star newcomers who have been trained by Imtiaz after several auditions. The film will also mark Imtiaz’s brother Sajid Ali’s directorial debut. Today, the makers of the film launched the poster of the film. Ekta Kapoor took to her Twitter account and wrote, “Recreated. Re-imagined. Retold. Proud to collaborate with Imtiaz Ali to present a classic love story with a contemporary twist. Here’s the teaser poster of #LailaMajnu, which will be out on 4th May. @balajimotionpic #ImtiazAlisLailaMajnu.”

Speaking about her association with Imtiaz, Ekta said, “I’m honoured to creatively collaborate with Imtiaz and see his vision through. Moreover, this story has given us a chance to launch new talent. We are wrapping up the shoot fast. I’m excited to retell this classic love story with a fresh spin.”

Further, Imtiaz added, “I’ve always been fascinated by legendary love stories and I wonder what keeps them alive for aeons. The idea of revisiting ‘Laila Majnu‘ has been on my mind for a while. There’s something magical and modern about the madness of their love.”

Laila Majnu will be released on May 4, 2018.
