Koimoi’s Half Yearly Verdict 2019: 5 Major Box Office Disappoints Of This Year!

As the year proceeds, we just hope we see less disappoints and more blockbusters. Here's hoping for a prosperous 2019 for Bollywood.

2019 has been an excellent year so far in terms of content and box office both. There have been so many films this year which turned out to be successful and surprise hits. With a couple of surprise Blockbusters too i.e. Uri: The Surgical Strike & Kabir Singh, they have contributed immensely to the year.

However, there have been a few disappointments also this year and we can only wish if the case for them was the opposite.

1. Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga

The Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Anil Kapoor starrer film did an honest attempt to normalise homosexuality. The film was never expected to be a huge hit and a normal success for the film would’ve made everyone happy. However, it turned out to be a dud and in fact the first big disappointment of 2019.

The film earned just 20.01 crores at the Box Office.

2. Kalank

Karan Johar and Yash Johar’s dream project which finally released in 2019 with huge expectations turned out to be the biggest disappointment of this year. The film had an excellent star-cast with names like Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit.

The lifetime collections of the film were just 81 crores.

3. Student of the Year 2

The sequel of Karan Johar’s 2012 hit film Student Of The Year launched Ananya Panday & Tara Sutaria. With a business of just 70.66 crores, it turned out to be a “Losing” project for Dharma.

4. India’s Most Wanted

Raj Kumar Gupta’s India’s Most Wanted starring Arjun Kapoor had a promising plot. However, the film turned out to be a disaster at the box office with a total business of 11.50 crores.

5. Bharat

Ali Abbas Zafar – Salman Khan & Katrina Kaif came together for Bharat after giving a blockbuster like Tiger Zinda Hai. The expectations were only bigger but the film remained much below the mark. Although the opening of the film was historic and it crossed 200 crores mark for a lifetime as well, the fact that the business was much lower than expected and the film was not a hit makes it a disappointment.
