Kareena Kapoor Khan is an actress who has been vocal about the huge pay disparity in Bollywood. Many times, she has reasoned that actresses are much underpaid. At times, she has even joked about the same in front of her male counterparts. For instance, while promoting Good Newwz with Akshay Kumar, she made sure to discuss the huge pay gap in a light manner, taking digs at the actor.
However, it is not now that she has started fighting for the cause. In fact, the actress has been clear on her stance for a very long and has not spared filmmakers like Karan Johar and Yash Chopra when it came to her paychecks!
It was once when there was news all over the media that Kareena Kapoor Khan demanded a paycheck equal to Shah Rukh Khan for Kal Ho Naa Ho that people mocked her, and Bebo decided to put her foot down against all the gossip surrounding her acting ‘too pricey!’ In the same interview, she also confessed how she has realized that there are no friends in the film-making business.

In an interview with Rediff, Bebo slammed reports that quoted her price as immovable and the reason for losing friends and assignments in the industry. She said, “If Johars’ film (Kal Ho Naa Ho) had been directed by Karan, I would have done it for free. In fact, I don’t know why such a hoo-ha is being made about my so-called rigid price. I’m doing JP Dutta‘s LoC for free. I would do anything for him. I know after Refugee, he will again bring out the best in me in LoC.”
However, she stated facts rather too straightforwardly by questioning Karan Johar in not paying her market price despite his last film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, earning well and her character Poo becoming iconic. Kareena Kapoor Khan clarified & questioned, “I don’t think I am wrong in asking for my price from someone who has made a Rs 53 crore profit from his last film. Why should we work for next to nothing for big producers and charge our market price from smaller producers who can ill afford it? Aren’t we all part of the same industry?”
The actress finally put her foot down against the smear campaign about her ‘too pricey’ tag and explained that she has been demanding as per a producer’s capacity, which is quite fair. She even mentioned, “If I work with someone who is very gifted but cannot afford my price, I would certainly charge much less. Govind Nihalani has just given me a wonderful script (Dev).”
Well, definitely, Kareena Kapoor Khan deserves all the applause for taking such a brave and clear stand about her market value, and kudos to her for sticking to her set of rules to date. That is how queens rule, we guess!
