Kalki Koechelin
Kalki Koechelin

She was accused of being way too predictable in Shanghai and also approaching her part in a dry manner. In fact such was the criticism that came from certain segments of media that even director Dibakar Banerjee came out in her defence and challenged those who were arguing about her characterisation. Well, in films to come, Kalki Koechelin won’t require her directors to stand up for her since the parts that she is playing are far different from the supposedly ‘dry’ characters that she was playing in Shanghai, Shaitan and That Girl in Yellow Boots, to name a few.

“To begin with, Kalki is playing this bohemian happy-go-lucky girl in Ek Thi Daayan. In fact, it is a very sweet ‘non-daayan’ like character that she is playing there,” informs a source, “Yes, she does get into an unpredictable zone but the inherent sweetness doesn’t go. It is a contemporary film set in today’s Mumbai.”

The film also stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Huma Qureshi in lead roles. Meanwhile she is also an integral part of Karan Johar’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which has Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone spearheading the cast.

While that film is still some time away, one wonders whether it would be too early to ask Kalki that who amongst the three is eventually the ‘daayan’ in this Emraan Hashmi starrer.

“Of course it would be too soon,” smiles Kalki, “That is the mystery of the film so how can I reveal that. I am not necessarily a ‘daayan’ but then I could be the one! It is this very unpredictability about the film that I love most.”

Well Kalki, we are waiting for the suspense to be unveiled once Ek Thi Daayan releases all over on 18th April.
