Coronavirus pandemic has affected the entire world. Bollywood has been highly impacted too. Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi was supposed to witness a March release. It’s August 2020 and nothing seems certain till date. Similarly, Ranveer Singh’s ’83 was slated for an April 10 release. Both the films may now hit the digital screens.
Breaking all old trends, Amitabh Bachchan’s Gulabo Sitabo turned the first film to release digitally. Eventually, Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Dil Bechara, Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena, Vidyut Jammwan’s Khuda Hafiz followed the trend too. Moreover, Akshay’s own Laxmmi Bomb will be releasing on the digital screens as well.
Now, as per recent reports, Sooryavanshi and ’83 makers may have decided to hold back no more. Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibashish Sarkar has himself hinted at the same. As expected, fans already can’t keep calm.

In an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Shibashish said, “If either cinema halls don’t open or corona impact increases many folds….and audiences are not coming… Or in some states theatres open and in some states they won’t….in those scenarios we will have to explore all options… Either pure SVOD (video on demand) routes. Or TVOD/PPV (pay per view) routes like what the makers of Mulan are planning. Or part theatrical/part TVOD. Or in some state/countries theatrical and some state digital… Basically we will not like to shift release date further…. and ideally look for theatrical or any other hybrid measure for the best possible release. (sic.)”
But the official also cleared that they have all intentions to go towards the theatrical route. The makers are not keen on releasing either Akshay Kumar starrer Sooryavanshi or Ranveer Singh’s ’83 on digital. But given the on-going scenario, not much is under their hands. “We are 100% inclined to take theatrical route. However, at the same time, we don’t want to delay the release further than practically possible. That means we will not like to push release dates beyond Diwali / Christmas. So the first option is to go theatrical if cinemas open up and audiences are back,” said the Reliance Entertainment CEO.
