John Abraham is looking at 2013 as a decisive year for himself. Starting with playing an out and out negative character in Race 2 to working in the ‘role of a lifetime’ for Shootout at Wadala, he is finding himself in the middle of action. Add to that his production Madras Cafe and he has a trilogy of action films up for grabs. With his single still from Shootout at Wadala which has just released doing the trick, he is on a roll.

So how cool is being bad in ‘Race 2’?
Well, there is nothing positive about this guy that I am playing in Race 2. He is plain cool bad man. Add to this some heavy duty action and there is quite some adrenalin drive in store.

In fact talking about action, there is a lot of that and more which is expected in ‘Shootout at Wadala’. What’s happening on that?
Yeah, the film is in hardcore action mode. I look at it this way. There would be superheroes who would wear their underwear outside pants or indulge in Kung Fu hustles. However I feel we lack some real action heroes. Otherwise if you look internationally, in terms of memorable characters there are John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) and John McClane (Bruce Willis). I think Hindi film industry can have a little bit of John Abraham also (smiles). Jokes apart, I believe that space of a real action hero is completely vacant. I am so happy to fill in that space.

Doesn’t it become physically taxing for you to get into so many fights film after film? After all, it started way back with ‘Force’.
It is taxing. Currently I am shooting for Madras Cafe and as I speak to you, my hands are cut. I prefer doing my action myself. However what is physically taxing is when you keep breaking your bones and hairline cracks on shins, elbows, forearms; the pain tires you out. I avoid pain killers till as much as I can. However when bones are broken then these cuts are quite minor in comparison (smiles).

Well, you seem to have a made a major decision though to not sign any other new film till the release of ‘Shootout at Wadala’. Why is that so?
Yes, it is a conscious call not to sign anything else. I will not even touch any other film till Shootout at Wadala releases. However there is nothing sinister about that. It is just that I want to devote a lot of time for this film. Yes, Madras Cafe is my baby and I am doing that but I don’t think I have time to start any other film.
