Javed Akhtar Goes “What A Shame” & Claps Back At Animal Maker Sandeep Reddy Vanga Over Dragging His Son Farhan: “53 Years Ke Career Me…”

Animal turned out to be a blockbuster affair at the Indian box office. The action thriller was highly criticized for its misogynist content but registered footfalls in large numbers. Javed Akhtar was among the few celebrities who raised his voice against Ranbir Kapoor starrer. Soon, a war of words began with Sandeep Reddy Vanga dragging his son Farhan Akhtar. Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna led Animal was questioned over its portrayal of toxic masculinity. From defending infidelity to slap and the shoe-licking scene, a lot of controversial sequences triggered viewers. Veteran lyricist Javed even went on to say that such films are “dangerous” for society. That didn’t go very well with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who questioned his inconsistency and questioned his son Farhan Akhtar’s association with Mirzapur.

In a new interview with Barkha Dutt, Javed Akhtar has given it back to Sandeep Reddy Vanga and said, “When he responded to me, I was honoured. In 53 years of my career, he could not find one film, one script, one scene, one dialogue, one song. So he had to go to my son’s office and find a TV serial, which is neither acted, directed, or written by Farhan. His company has produced it. Nowadays, these big companies like Excel are producing a lot of things. So one of them is this. He mentioned that. It flattered me to no end. 53 years ke career mein tum kuchh bhi nahi nikaal paye (You couldn’t find anything sexist in 53 years of my career)? What a shame.”

Javed Akhtar added that he doesn’t personally have any issues with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, and in fact, the filmmaker has the freedom to create whatever content he aligns with. But it broke his heart to see the audience accept such a film, which was alarming!

After the grand success of Animal, Sandeep is now all set for Animal Park. The scripting process has reportedly begun, but Ranbir Kapoor will begin shooting only in 2025.
