Jackky Bhagnani
Jackky Bhagnani

A starlet who has sacrificed a lot of weight for the sake of the industry, a macho man who has sculpted out a fit body to woo the audience, its Jackky Bhagnani’s acting credibility that will come to the fore with Rangrezz, he claims.

Dolling out a friendship story like Rangrezz, what is it that drove you to the film?
Nothing like that (sic). Rangrezz is a common man’s story and people have high chances of connecting with it. Chances of people not liking it are less and it is a very different flavour, with the songs and the promos having a totally different flavour. It is a real man’s story. Every one has a friend, brotherly friend, girlfriend and friends’ girl friends too but it is the story about how someone’s relationship affects another friend.

How was it working with Priyadarshan?
It was fabulous working with Priyan sir and I think I have grown five folds as an actor. He made me work outside my comfort zone and he made people see me in a different way. I don’t think anyone else would have given an opportunity to challenge myself with such a powerful role, that of a Marathi guy. So I am really grateful to him.

Recently you did the Gangnam style dance for the film too. How was the experience?
Well it was just a part of our marketing strategy because basically, when you have a product as in a film to be created awareness about, my job as an actor is to act in the film and make it a good film. But today even a film being good isn’t that important. What is important is to let people know that this particular film called Rangrezz is coming. And since India thrives on Music, Gangnam style was the best way.

Somewhere do you feel your acting gets subordinated by the other aspects of your life: be it fitness or rugged looks?
It is not that but I will tell you in a very quick manner. FALTU had garnered 25 cr which is equivalent to 40 cr in today’s date. So that is obviously one successful film. Ajab Gazabb Love for sure, I agree with you that it did not work at all. But then I am ultimately a newcomer who has done only a couple of films and my film was coming at a time where six other films were about to release. With big names like Chakravyuh, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Son Of Sardaar and all that lined up, it was difficult for my film to make a break through. So you just get diluted.

What are you expecting from Rangrezz?
I wish people like the film and feel that it is a good film. I don’t want a successful film over a good film. I love cinema and want to be remembered five-ten years down the line. So I just hope that people come out and say that this is a good film! Anything between good and excellent would do for me.
