Earlier this year it was announced with much fanfare that Irrfan Khan would be beginning work on his first ever romcom. With Aditi Rao Hydari as his love interest, the unusual pairing was also being touted to be the highlight of the film. As things stand today though, Irrfan is not doing the film and there is uncertainty around it going on floors with any other actor.
“Irrfan was really charged about playing this character called ‘Fanney Khan’ who is a part of a band that performs in weddings. He had played someone with roving eyes earlier as well in Life In A Metro but this Shivam Nair film set in Lucknow was expected to be different while being out and out entertaining. However things got stuck at the script level and eventually Irrfan bowed out,” informs a source.
Apparently, Irrfan liked the core idea but wanted the script to be reworked. Producer Anjum Razvi did accommodate that request as well but when things didn’t go on expected lines after multiple meetings and reading, Irrfan bowed out.
When contacted, Irrfan confirmed the news. He said, “No, the film is not happening, at least for me. We were waiting for the right corrections in the script but that didn’t happen. I lost track of it after a while. I am away from it.”
It is yet to be seen whether Anjum and Shivam revive the film with another lead. However if that doesn’t happen, the loss would be all Aditi’s who would possibly miss out on playing a solo lead in a romcom entertainer.
