Even if you’ve followed IPL and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) just for Shah Rukh Khan, you would never forget Brendon McCullum’s impeccable 158 not out knock against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the first match of the first season of IPL.
That was a debut match of the tournament and people didn’t expect anything less than McCullum just going out there and blasting those memorable shots. Over the years, Shah Rukh has been extremely supportive of the team, and we’ve anecdotes from many of its players agreeing to the same.

In a recent interview published on Times Now, Brendon McCullum who had turned KKR’s head-coach opened up about the feedback he got from two of most important people of the team – Shah Rukh Khan and Sourav Ganguly.

He said, “I was just a young kid back then, so I was so in awe of Shah Rukh Khan, who was such a megastar. I was so out of my depth even just around the superstars in my cricket team, let alone the megastar who owned our cricket team! I don’t remember many reactions in detail, but what I do remember is what Sourav Ganguly said to me that night.”
He further added, “Dada said, ‘Your life is changed forever’, and I didn’t quite know what he meant at the time, but (in hindsight), I 100% agree with him.”

He also revealed Shah Rukh Khan’s feedback, “There were times when I was with KKR, and then I got released, but we always finished on really good terms. I was always very grateful and thankful for the opportunity that the franchise had provided for me. So when an opportunity arose again (for the role of the head coach), I thought: ‘Well, Shah Rukh Khan did say to me ‘You’ll always be very involved with KKR’ and this, I guess, is another opportunity.’”
