But when Kareena Kapoor Khan was cast in Singham Returns, probably the romantic quotient of the film was upped in terms of expectations of it. Ajay and Kareena have earlier shown some breathtaking chemistry in films like Omkara, but Singham Returns is a commercial potboiler.
Ajay in an interview to Koimoi was asked about his chemistry with Kareena and he very plainly stated, “I don’t know what chemistry means. If the characters work, the chemistry works. If the film doesn’t work, nothing about it works. Good performance also doesn’t work. We have obviously shared a great rapport over the years. I have known her for a long time. There is a comfort zone naturally. And that shows on screen as well.”
Ask Devgn about Kareena’s bad and good qualities, and he quips, “She has a lot of good qualities. She is a simple and naive girl at heart. She tries to portray herself as smart but she is not. And the bad quality is not exactly bad, it’s entertaining. She loves to gossip.”
When we caught up with Kareena and asked her the same, she said, “His bad trait, the whole industry knows. He smokes too much. It’s so difficult to stand next to him. He is puffing away. You can’t sit in the same room where he is. Sometimes when we are having lunch together, I am not even finished with my food and he is puffing away to glory. Now we have decided that we are never going to have lunch together because I cannot stand the smoky environment.”
Continuing in the same vein, Kareena added, “But this film is like coming back home because we all have worked so much with each other. We are like family.”
Singham Returns is all set to hit the screens tomorrow. The film directed by Rohit Shetty stars Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles.
