Newlyweds Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D’souza talk about their relationship, marriage and Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya:

Tell us who fell in love first with ‘tere naal’?
Ritesh:
We became friends first, understood each other and spent time with each other and with time, we got used to each other.

Genelia: This was a gradual process; there is no definite point of time that when we fell in love.

Who thought about marriage first?
Genelia:
Again there was no particular date or a time, this thought just evolved with time.

Ritesh: We kept our relationship very private and very few close friends knew that we are seeing each other. Then, we realised that we want to get married, because we want to live with each other.

Who says ‘Tere naal love ho gaya’ first in this film?
Ritesh:
The case is same here as well. When you will see the film you will see that no one says it to anyone. Sometimes, you feel the boy loves the girl and sometimes it is vice versa.

So, is this film not based on your love story?
Ritesh:
No, but when we see the film it feels something like this happened to us in our real life.

Genelia: Yes, seriously.

Ritesh: When you fall in love you slowly understand that you are in love. That is how this film, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, is made.

Tell us about things you don’t like about each other.
Genelia:
Maybe his schedules… he is the busiest man alive. I don’t know how he travels from Madh Island to town to suburbs and back.

Ritesh: Her memory, she rarely forgets anything. She sometimes tells me ‘you remember in 2007…’ and I am like ‘What!! 2007!’ But sometimes it’s good to forget things for a healthy relationship.

Except the Khans and probably others like Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan, other actors are not comfortable doing solo films. Have you thought like that?
Ritesh:
No, I feel that when a solo (hero) film is made by a filmmaker, he needs to have faith in the script. When a company like Tips comes to you with a film, you feel confident that someone else believes in you. Then you see the budget of the film and you make sure that you choose the correct film with the correct budget and do justice to it.
