Akshay Kumar was on board Rohit Dhawan’s film from the time the debut-making director decided to make a film. But when Rohit sat on the story idea, he realised it would work better as a two-hero subject. Since two-hero films are never easy to write if you have to justify both the protagonists, it took Rohit almost two years to complete the script. It is then that he went to narrate the subject to John Abraham “who’s been like a buddy since I worked as an assistant director on dad’s (David Dhawan) film, Hook Ya Crook, starring him.” According to Rohit, “John was convinced immediately.” And that’s how the successful team of Akshay-John came to be repeated seven years after their first outing together, Garam Masala.
