People say ‘History repeats itself’ and now we all may even get to see it. No, we aren’t talking about the Ashokas, and the Chandraguptas, but our own Bollywood A-listers, who, like every year would be fighting for the crown as soon as the Award season kick starts.

Yes, while we draw the year to a closure, after some mammoth films, some hits, some flops and some that went unnoticed, it’s time to gear up for the who’s who of B-town gracing the red carpets for all the Award ceremonies, a ritual that is likely to begin next month onwards.

Drawing note from last year, it was our boombat lady, Vidya Balan and the industry Rockstar Ranbir Kapoor who walked away with all the applause, giving away traces to Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan, at times for their modest acting in 7 Khoon Maaf and Don 2 respectively. Though most of us waited for this notion to change, we were surprised to have been proved wrong yet again. Going by the current scenario of the fraternity and the critical as well as box office acclaim of all the movies, one can easily predict the tinsel town masterminds who are all set to bask in their share of glory.

Kareena Kapoor (Heroine), Sridevi (English Vinglish), Priyanka Chopra (Barfi!), Vidya Balan (Kahaani)

Yes, the Award Story 2012 is no different from what it was a year back. It is quite predictable, that among all the strong female characters that came to the fore this year, in the form of brilliant performances by actresses in films like Heroine, English Vinglish, Barfi!, Kahaani and others, it would be a pull between Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra. Vidya, with her scintillating Kahaani stint is the crowd favourite to bag away all the awards, while Priyanka’s apt detailing of the autistic Jhilmil in Barfi! can pose the maximum threat to industry’s most bankable female icon today. None of the other actresses have been worthy of the award, with Sridevi’s comeback and Kareena Kapoor’s Heroine, coming in for a close call.

As for the actors, there can be no two ways with Ranbir Barfi! Kapoor walking away with the coveted prize. Others’ chances to dethrone the new ruling prince can be completely ruled out.

Aamir Khan (Talaash), Salman Khan (Dabangg 2), Shah Rukh Khan (Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Hrithik Roshan (Agneepath), Ajay Devgn (Bol Bachchan), Ranbir Kapoor (Barfi!)
Aamir Khan (Talaash), Salman Khan (Dabangg 2), Shah Rukh Khan (Jab Tak Hai Jaan), Hrithik Roshan (Agneepath), Ajay Devgn (Bol Bachchan), Ranbir Kapoor (Barfi!)

Aamir Khan who recently gave an award winning performance as the top cop and Salman Khan, who created box office history with his Ek Tha Tiger and is all set to roar with Dabangg 2 are two actors who have decided not to accept awards anymore. Salman’s family and friends do accept it on his behalf though, but none of his hysteric maneuvers are close to an award winning performance. Akshay, who delivered slapsticks and masala flicks all over the year, has been panned for his poor acting and hence there are no chances of him staying afloat as well. It is only Hrithik Roshan’s performance in Agneepath, Shah Rukh’s army officer Samar Anand in Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgan’s Bol Bachchan that can pose threat to Ranbir, but chances of them scoring over Barfi! is next to impossible. Will Ranbir walk away with all the Critics and Popular Awards both, like last year? Or will there be two different winners, just like SRK won some last year under the Jury category? That’s all that we need to wait and watch.

As of now, we at Koimoi.com predict the triumph of Ranbir and Vidya written all over, with Barfi! and Kahaani both emerging as true victors, keeping their flags held high.
