Jackie Shroff, who is also known as Dada by his fans, turns 52 today, February 1, 2012.

Born as Jaikishen in a Gujarati-speaking family in Mumbai, Jackie made his acting debut with a small negative role in Dev Anand’s Heera Panna (1973).

But it was Subhash Ghai’s hit film Hero (1983) which made Jackie an overnight star.

After Hero, Jackie was seen in some average-grossing films. His next hit was again a Subhash Ghai film, the multi-starrer Ram Lakhan (1989), in which Jackie played the role of an honest police officer. The film also starred Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit and Dimple Kapadia.

Jackie won his first Filmfare Award as the best actor for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda (1989). The film was about underworld gangsters. Like Ram Lakhan, Jackie played the role of Anil Kapoor’s brother in Parinda.
