He elucidated, “His name is Nikhil, who has a mysterious past. He joins in the gang after the first act. When he catches this gang trying to teach a lesson to the corrupt system, Nikhil walks in with his own past which is unraveled through the film. You will discover that in the film. He has the same ideology as the gang and yet he has some conflict internally because he is a new guy. They are doubtful about what kind of a person he is. He is someone who is a little tedha. There are doubts of him being a cop but then the character is beautifully sketched.”

Emraan Hashmi in a still from movie ‘Ungli’

The last time something of the space came was Rensil’s film Rang De Basanti which was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. But a leading magazine had slammed RDB for being anti nationalist. Ask Emraan if the possibility of it bothers him, he coolly replies, “This in itself will raise eyebrows of showing the Ungli to the system and the unethical means of how they are going to correct things. Lot of people will question. Everyone has a viewpoint to the situation. Every film has for and against views. You can’t please everyone.”

The script is always Rensil’s fulcrum for every film. Emraan was very attracted to the script for its relatability. He observed, “When I went through the script, I could relate to it. It is not pull down every single rickshawala, but this does happen in most parts of the country and especially with the senior citizens. That is what is shown in the film. A rickshawala does that to my mother in the film and that is how I get provoked to send him to Delhi. It doesn’t really demand research because we as a country know these basic things with which we have problems with. A lot of things are questionable.”

Ungli starring Emraan along with Kangana and Randeep Hooda in main roles will hit screens tomorrow.
