It is a known fact that Emraan Hashmi, just like so many others out there, has loved and followed Sanjay Dutt‘s work for over the years. Now for the first time in his career he is also acting alongside him in Karan Johar produced Unglee. However, there is another little known fact about them that hardly anyone, whether within or outside the industry, is aware of.
“Emraan’s real life grandmother had played Sanjay Dutt’s on screen grandmother in Naam more than 25 years ago. Her name is Purnima and she is related to Mahesh Bhatt. When the director was making the film, he roped her in for a small but an important part. In fact she was a veteran actress and had acted in 80 odd films, her last notable one being Ajay Devgn’s Phool Aur Kaante,” informs a source.
At that time Emraan was a kid and hardly aware of the collaboration in the making. However, over the years he was reminded about this fact and it was a pleasant surprise for him to know that on screen as well, he and Sanjay Dutt had an existing connect.
“I remember hopping over to Sanjay Dutt’s place for watching movies since we stayed close by. It was only a lot later in the day that I realised that my grandmother and he had also acted together,” smiles Emraan.
Now that he and Dutt are coming together, he is ecstatic about the association. “He is a chilled out guy and for a film like Unglee which has such a fresh appeal to it, it only adds on to the fun. After my grandmother, it is now time for me to take the legacy forward,” said Emraan on a parting note.
