As Liquid, Omi and Subhash; actor Divyendu Sharma has entertained the audience with his comical skills and has garnered accolades and awards for the same. In a brief chat, the actor talks about his character in his first lead film Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend, why he won’t be a part of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 and which of the three Top Khans he would prefer to work with first.
Are you doing Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2?
No, I am not.
What did not work?
My character ‘Liquid’ in Pyaar Ka Punchnama is very special; you get these kinds of characters once in a life time. My idea is rather than encashing on it, I just feel let’s not touch it, it’s like my symphony. I made one nice symphony and everyone enjoyed it, then why make changes in it? I am not of the point of view that “yeh toh hit hogaya hai toh usko vaapis kardete hai”.
So is it like you were never on board or you did read the script and did not like it? What was it like?
No, the makers obviously wanted me, but I was of the opinion that I don’t want to do the same character again. And I think they were good enough to understand my point.
Talking about your upcoming film ‘Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend’ what is your character about?
I am playing a character called Dhruv; he is a very nice, sweet, and a boy next door sort of a guy. He’s got friends with whom he parties, and enjoys life, has fun, but at the same time he is very studios and is focused. He is preparing for his IAS exams. His life plans and goals are very clearly laid in his mind. He is a sensitive guy and has his list of ‘Dos and Donts’.
We have seen you doing comedy genres. So what different genres you would like to try next?
I really love thrillers, so I would like to work in a good thriller. Would like to work with a director like Sriram Raghavan! I really like his work, his space, and the films he make, and Neeraj Pandey who makes such nice films with absolutely no nonsense. Of course, it is the plot that matters. Thriller is one genre which I want to explore. Dark genres takes you out of your comfort zone, and I think something which has more intensity will always attract me more than something that is in my comfort zone. That’s one thing and I really want to do a superhero film.
Of the Top 3 Khans in Bollywood, with whom you would like to work with first?
No, it’s a trap (laughs). All the three Khans are different from one another. We have Mr. Salman Khan, who is out there, like a biggest superstar, he just comes onscreen and wants to shout, he is the real superstar I believe. We have Mr. Shah Rukh Khan, who is so energetic, and then we have Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan who comes up with something new every time. It would be great if I get the opportunity to work with all the three, I don’t know, I haven’t thought about who would I prioritize, but I really like Salman Khan, for what he is; bindaas and cool.
