Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently announced his next project to be Padmavati, which will be a period drama revolving around Rani Padmini of Chittor.
As reports suggest, the film will have Deepika Padukone play the lead role of the Rajput queen, where as Shahid Kapoor will be cast as her husband. Ranveer Singh is being chosen to play the role of Mughal King Allauddin Khilji, who was supposedly obsessed with the queen.
Interestingly, while the film is about to go on the floor, there have been protests against the director already. Patidar Navnirman Sena led by Hardik Patel are demanding assurance from Bhansali that he will be true to history and will not resort to cinematic liberties while portraying Queen Padmini’s story.

He was even quoted saying that they may hold the film’s release in Rajasthan and that they will not allow history to be tarnished in the way of entertainment.
Bhansali previously faced protests for his last film Bajirao Mastani too, which was based on the Peshwas of Pune.
