The much awaited trailer of Aamir Khan’s Dangal has finally been released. Thanks to the main theme of the film being wrestling, there had been immense speculations of the film facing comparisons with this year’s most super hit, Salman Khan starrer Sultan. While Sultan turned out to be a love story that was wrapped around the sport, Dangal trailer, promises that the film will be an emotional drama that packs a punch with women empowerment and gender stereotyping at its core.
Aamir, who will be seen essaying the role of Indian wrestler, Mahavir Phoghat, is seen in two phases of his life, one where he himself is in the ring and later when he turns a trainer to his daughters. The most interesting bit of the trailer is the transformation of his attitude from wanting a son to realizing that his daughters too have the potential to make a mark in sports and fulfill his wish of a Gold medal for India.
The film is based on the popular Phoghat sisters, Babita and Geeta, both who have fetched medals for India in the Commonwealth Games.
It is clear how hard Aamir has worked to get the right physique for both portions of the film. Sakshi Tanwar who is seen playing the role of his wife is expected to give a powerful backing as the supporting character.
Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as Aamir’s feisty sporty ladies are also expected to wow us with their performances.
Dialogues like, ‘Bohot Ho Gayi Pehelwani, Ab Hoga Dangal’ and ‘Maari Chhoriyaan Chhoron Se Kam Hai Ke’ are high on impact and make us believe that the film will hit the right emotional chords to become a commercial hit.
Daler Mehendi’s ‘Dangal Dangal‘ title track comes across as a catchy number in the trailer.
What is interesting is that director Nitesh Tiwari keeps the trailer simple and on the face. It is probably the story’s non fictional nature that will drive more audiences.
