Reimagining Damini 2 With Sunny Deol & Adah Sharma
One Mohanlal Film Serves As A Strong Script For Damini 2 Led By Sunny Deol (Picture Credit: Facebook & IMDB)

Last year, we saw Sunny Deol making a roaring comeback with Gadar 2 and ripping the box office apart with some jaw-dropping numbers. Now, we reimagine him wearing that lawyer’s uniform and bringing back his cult character of advocate Govind Srivastava on the big screen. Yes, you guessed it right! We’re talking about his cult crime drama, Damini. We feel that Damini 2 is highly possible, and even the script is ready if someone decides to remake Mohanlal’s recent court drama.

For those who don’t know, Damini was released in 1993 and was a huge success at the Indian box office. Apart from commercial success, the film also tasted solid critical success, and over the years, it became a cult classic. The craze of its dialogues and scenes is still there, and it would be a big thing if the film gets a sequel. In the past, we have reimagined Shah Rukh Khan returning as Ra.One, and Sunny Deol coming back for Border 2; both were big successes with readers. Even the opinion about Prasanth Varma being an ideal candidate to direct Ramayan was a huge hit. Now, here’s another one!

The Mohanlal film that we’re talking about here is Neru. Also starring Anaswara Rajan, Priyamani, and others, this 2023 Malayalam release was a huge box office success and garnered extremely positive reviews from critics. Neru had a tight script along with superb storytelling, narrating a story of a blind girl’s rape case. In this film, Mohanlal plays the character of a very subtle and calm lawyer.

We have seen Sunny Deol making the audience go crazy with his portrayal as a lawyer, and watching him fill Mohanlal’s shoes would be no less than a treat. Of course, if Sunny Paaji is on the screen, one can’t control the temptation to watch him bashing the goons solely with his hands. Just imagine if Damini 2 happens, and there comes a scene where he utters his iconic dialogue, “Ye dhai kilo ka haath jab kisi par padta hai na, tab aadmi uthta nahi, uth jata hai,” people will go bonkers.

Talking about the other roles, Adah Sharma fits the bill perfectly to play the character of a blind girl, originally essayed by Anaswara Rajan. In The Kerala Story, she performed well, and for the Neru remake, if ever made, she looks to be an apt choice. As a defendant lawyer, Boman Irani would look good. He’s highly versatile, and he will be able to pull off a shrewd lawyer with a finesse, like a boss.

Damini was directed by veteran filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi, and if he comes on board as a mentor or a creative producer, Damini 2 will shape up really well. Handling a courtroom drama isn’t an easy thing, and we feel that Aniruddha Roy Chaudhary (Pink) or Ajay Bhal (Section 375) would be a good choice as a director as they have excelled in the past. However, we’re not so sure if they’ll be able to pull off the mass side of Sunny’s role.

If things fall into the right place and if anyone ever decides to bring Damini 2 on the big screen with Neru’s script, believe us, it would be a big success at the box office and will easily breach the 200 crore mark at the Indian box office.
