The industry’s worst fears have come true. Distributors, who released Kites after buying the same from its all-world distributors, Reliance Big Pictures, and exhibitors who screened the film are up in arms against producer Rakesh Roshan and Reliance Big. The cause of their ire is that they were not informed about Kites being an English film and were, in fact, told that the film was like any other Hindi film with the difference that its heroine, Barbara Mori, speaks in Spanish in the film.
Many exhibitors are also contemplating dragging their territory’s distributor who either acquired the film from Reliance Big or released it on their behalf. Gopal Bhartia, the distributor of Kites for Bihar circuit, also intends making the Central Board of Film Certification a defendant in the court case because he feels, the CBFC has cheated the audience by classifying an English-Spanish film as a Hindi film.
