Deepika Padukone along with director Meghna Gulzar and Vikrant Massey today unveiled the trailer of Chhapaak. The movie based on acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal, raised lot of questions related to the wrong happenings with women lately, including the recent Priyanka Reddy Rape case.

While present at the Chhapaak trailer launch held in Mumbai today, Deepika Padukone along with director Gulzar were asked about the judicial system of the country, and their views on the police encounter in Priyanka Reddy’s case. For the unversed, a chunk of the society criticized the police for taking hands into their matter, despite the majority being happy and calling it a matter of justice for Priyanka.

To this, Meghna replied, “Ye platform nahi hai us chiz pe comment karne ka. Ki Priyanka Reddy ke sath jo hua and uske baad jo hua wo sahi hai ki nahi. We will not answer that here. Because those are our personal ideologies, this is not the place for it.” (This is not the platform to comment to whether what happened to Priyanka Reddy, or the consequences of it are right or not.)

Furthermore, on being asked to whether there should be special courts for such mishappenings, “Yes, there are special courts for it. Even during Nirbhaya’s case, there were special courts made but judiciary, the way it is in our country has its own process and we’re not in a place to comment on it,” answered Meghna Gulzar.

Meanwhile, Chhapaak has been recieveing rave reviews for it’s dialogues, prosthetic work and the take on the issue, portrayed in the trailer. Tags like #HatsOffToDeepika have been storming Twitter.

Chhapaak, which also stars Vikrant Massey, is slated for a January 10, 2020 release.
