Of the four Hindi films released today (May 20, 2011) Pyaar Ka Punchnama and 404 have taken horrifyingly poor openings. Kashmakash, the dubbed version of Bengali film ‘Nouka Dubi’, also had a dismal start at the box-office. The only saving grace is the Hollywood film Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides which has take a lovely opening in both its versions (English and Hindi dubbed).

Coincidentally, both, ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ and ‘404’, are non-star cast films. Therefore their comparison with the Hollywood film ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ is unfair. For, ‘Pirates’ is already a brand even in India although it is a brand that has been imported from Hollywood.

Weekend Box-Office Forecast

Pirates is expected to continue its good run

Because the reports of ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ and ‘404’ are as poor as their star cast, it is not very likely that an appreciable jump in collections will be noticed in the following two days. In fact, some cinemas might actually have to discontinue one or both of these films mid-week due to poor attendance. ‘Pirates’ is expected to continue its good run.
