The Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi title suit verdict expected on September 24 has taken its first toll. The Ranbir Kapoor – Priyanka Chopra starrer, Anjaana Anjaani, scheduled to release on the day of the verdict, will now release a week later on October 1st.
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala confirmed this development to Koimoi.com. “It is better to push back the release of ‘Anjaana Anjaani’ by a week as the audience will be scared to attend theatres over the weekend.” Nadiadwala, whose last film Housefull was well-received at the box-office, added that there was no risk associated with this decision.
However, the impending Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi verdict and the postponement of Anjaana Anjaani is expected to have a cascading effect on the release of other films slated to release over the next few weeks. While the Ajay Devgan – Akshaye Khanna starrer film, Aakrosh, will now release on October 8th, other producers are expected to follow suit. As a result, there will be no Hindi film release this Friday (September 24). Salman Khan’s Dabangg, which collected a record of Rs 800 million net in its first week, should continue its good run at the box-office.
Fans of Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will have to wait another week.
