Despite the uncanny resemblance between Kartik Aaryaan’s look to that of Akshay Kumar from Bhool Bhulaiyaa, director Anees Bazmee says that the two films are two different stories with a fresh set of characters. However, despite the filmmaker’s retribution of the two films being different, we can’t help but speculate!
Speaking to Mid-Day, Anees Bazmee, who is known to make some of the best comedies has said, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) was a psychological thriller, but the second outing is a ghost story. It does not take off from where the first part ended. It is a different tale, with a fresh set of actors,” says Bazmee, adding that on hearing the narration, he was of the opinion that it could enjoy a fresh title. “But the makers were keen on reviving the franchise.”

He further said, “We had to live up to the title, so there had to be some common elements. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is used to describe a maze, so the film has to be set in a sprawling haveli with several pathways.”

Meanwhile, the first part of the film, featuring Akshay Kumar, Shiney Ahuja, Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel, Manoj Joshi and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles was directed by the celebrated director Priyadarshan. Bhool Bhulaiyaa was a remake to the 1993 Malayalam film, Manichitrathazhu.
Featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani in lead roles, it is being speculated that Tabu will be joining the cast to reprise the character of Manjulika originally played by Vidya Balan.
