Shaandaar actress Alia Bhatt is thankful to Shahid Kapoor for recommending her name in Udta Punjab.

In an interview, Alia Bhatt said that this film wasn’t offered to her initially. No one had thought about casting her as everybody felt that Alia wouldn’t do this kind of film. When Shahid gave her the script to read, she completely fell in love with the script and wanted to be a part of it.

Alia Bhatt further added that, this film is completely different, from what she has done in her career till now. This film takes her into a complete different zone and gives her the opportunity to prove her acting skills.

Udta Punjab also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in key roles. The film is written and directed by Abhishek Chaubey and is slated to release on 17th June 2016.
