After Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman To Deliver Back To Back 300 Crore Success With Prem Ratan Dhan Payo?

Bajrangi Bhaijaan came with a bang and in the process is creating records. Massive ones at that. While around 276 crore has already come in for the Salman Khan-Kabir Khan affair, the film would soon be gaining a unique distinction of being the only second film in the 300 crore club after PK. While one waits to see how much more does it gather in new few days, it is time to look ahead in 2015.

The ‘300 crore question’ is – Which movie has the possibility of matching this feat in the current year? Well, if trade, exhibitors, distributors and of course the ‘aam junta’ is to go by, the choice is unanimous – Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.

Says distributor Rajesh Thadani, “At the beginning of the year it had seemed extremely difficult for any film to cross the 300 crore mark. However, it is now happening with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Now another film which may go close to that figure is Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and that too if the Rajshri and Salman magic works again!”

There is some sense of uncertainty though.

“Earlier I had a doubt about whether the record of PK would be broken by any film in 2015. I felt that the closest could be Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Fan (which has now been pushed ahead to 2016) or Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, says distributor and film business analyst Girish Johar, “See, PK is one of the landmark films of recent times. Others films may have a good or even better start, but going this far with long legs for the box office run seemed difficult. It has been made easy though by Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Let’s see how Prem Ratan Dhan Payo fares.”

Harsh Jain, film distributor and exhibitor, is quite positive though, “One film which certainly has the potential to surpass this record is Rajshri’s Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. Rajshri makes family drama and it’s been ages since a good family film has released. Salman Khan-Sooraj Barjatya combo has given blockbusters like Maine Pyaar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. It’s a Diwali release, so it will get the benefit of that too.”

One hopes so as well. The more, the merrier.
