Abhay Deol starrer Nanu Ki Jaanu releases today. The film belongs to the horror genre. However, the twist in the tale is that it is presented as a satire. Not that this has come as a surprise since the film’s director Faraz Haider has a flair for experimenting with different genres in a humorous manner.
“He has done that earlier with War Chod Na Yaar as well,” informs our source, “This was a film that was set around an India-Pakistan war. Released in 2013, the film starred Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan and Javed Jaffrey. Though it had a tense setting to it, Faraz ensured that there was never a serious moment as there was dollops of humor that was thrown in the narrative.”

A satire, the film brought out the idiosyncrasies of men across both sides of the border with a journalist thrown in for good measure. Though the film couldn’t cover much distance commercially, Faraz was recognized as a director who tried to tell his stories differently while ensuring that audiences had smile on their faces.

“Something similar is being attempted with Nanu Ki Jaanu as well,” a close associate of the filmmaker adds, “When you talk about a horror film being made, the usual props and situations come into mind. Faraz was quite sure that he won’t be taking a conventional route with Nanu Ki Jaanu. This is the reason why even though Abhay Deol’s house is shown to be haunted, he created a comic setting to the entire situation.”
With a satirical approach taken for the film, there are several fall-off-the-chair situations thrown into the narrative, as a result of which even the ghost angle comes across as fun, naughty and mischievous.
“It is always exciting when someone tries to think out of the box and bring in something different,” adds the makers of Nanu Ki Jaanu, “Faraz has done that with Nanu Ki Jaanu and we are super happy with what he has brought on the screen. The combination of Abhay Deol and Manu Rishi is a riot on screen and Patralekha brings in a surprise element. Now that the film is anyways running in theaters, you can catch it for yourself.”
