2013 has been a year for many directors to make a commercial comeback of sorts. Dry respite and creative limbos are common in film-making, but most get stagnated in the limbo and fail to emerge out of it.
But when a director has caliber, it is hard to restrain them in mediocrity. Koimoi brings for you the four directors who marked off with a bombastic comeback last year.

From Tashan till Dhoom 3 was a long journey and more for the filmmaker. While box office shunned his previous film Tashan branding it as a fiasco, Dhoom 3 was celebrated with aplomb. The film’s box office gains is indicative of its commercial success as the film recorded not quite unmatchable and hefty moolah that cannot be surpassed in a long time at the box office.

Many had found Guzaarish a masterpiece but for me it lost its novelty in its dullness. Drab ambiance and dark story had somehow limited the maverick director’s potential. However, Ramleela came as a pleasant surprise. With all the vigor in his film and the bright dashes of color he added to the cinematic canvas, it was by far Bhansali’s most entertaining work. Hands down, I am a bigger fan to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam but Ramleela was right out of another universe of the director’s imagination.
It was Republic Day barely 2 days back and as a norm I was flued to the television watching Mehra’s most promising work till date – Rang De Basanti. The film defined the psyche of today’s generation urging everyone raise their voices against social evils. After that brilliant film, Mehra’s Delhi 6 was a damp show. The fizz and the flair was conspicuously missing but when Mehra along with Farhan Akhtar came up with a bopic on Milkha Singh, everyone roared that Mehra had slipped back into the bets of his potential all over again.
Though Players wasn’t as terrible as it was made to be, but it was the execution of Race 2 that worked for Abbas Mustan. The film’s superb chase sequences and mostly the value of the film’s franchise, all summed up to make Race 2, 2013’s first wonder.
