There are times when you are carried away by the promo of a film. You want to watch it multiple number of times, find it truly terrific and then also wonder if it is just the emotions coming into play or there is something truly remarkable about what you just saw. So you allow the impact created by the promo to settle down, breathe easy and then take a rational call after a time gap.
This is what I did with Raj Kumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor’s Sanju!

The promo was unveiled three days back and instantly made a stunning impact.

Was it the fact that Ranbir Kapoor truly turned into Sanjay Dutt?
Was it the fact that Raj Kumar Hirani was yet again set to display his mastery over filmmaking?
Was it the fact that Sanjay Dutt’s real life has been so colorful that you get guilty pleasure of seeing it all on screen?
Was it the fact that there were elements of humor, drama, thrills, shock, romance, emotions – all packed into those rock solid three minutes?
Was it the fact that as an audience I have already been tuned well enough to catch some real good entertainment on the big screen once the film releases?
Undoubtedly there is this, and then a lot more that Sanju is promising when it is arriving in less than four weeks from now. After all, the teaser had set the stage well and now the promo has only accentuated the appeal further. The film is coming across as a complete entertainer which would have everything that a quintessential Bollywood ‘masala’ flick should be offering to the audiences?

Any blemishes? Well, I truly believe that the shots featuring sewage leakage in jail was totally unnecessary in the promo. If the intent was to stay truthful to the film then well, as an audience I could well have watched that during the narrative itself. Why to expose that in the promo when it comes across as a rather forced shock pointer.
Of course, there is drugs, sex, women – everything being spoken about in the trailer. None of that is fortunately offensive though. There are no graphic details of either of these episodes from Sanjay Dutt’s life; as a matter of fact all of this is being narrated in a lighter vein.
Well, a light hearted narrative, this is the hallmark of Raj Kumar Hirani films. This is what I expect from the film as a whole too. That’s what I am sure is going to bring audiences in theaters as well on 29th June.
I would be surprised, if the film doesn’t turn out to be a Blockbuster. Period!
