When it comes to a franchise, it is always the second installment that lends confidence around whether it can be built, and the third that either establishes it well or sets it up for closure. Dhoom: 2 was far bigger than Dhoom, Housefull 2 turned out to be a greater success than Housefull, Golmaal Again ensured that many more would be made in time to come and Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 2 too scaled it up hugely when compared to Baaghi.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala, who is known for ensuring that his films are made for big screens and cater to the family audiences across A, B as well as C centers, came up with a no-compromise approach when it came to making Baaghi 2. This was also the time when Tiger Shroff, his protégé, had seen underwhelming results for A Flying Jatt as well as Munna Michael. Still, the head honcho of Nadiadwala Grandson ensured that Baaghi 2 was the biggest film coming out of his production house apart from his directorial outing Kick with Salman Khan.

The results were there to be seen as the film took a bumper opening all over and accumulated a staggering 25.10 crores on its first day itself. This also emerged as the fifth opening day of 2018 and was next only to biggies like Thugs of Hindostan, Sanju, Race 3 and Gold. In fact its opening weekend of 73.10 crores was marginally lower than the entire lifetime of Baaghi [77 crores] while its lifetime number of 166 crores was the sixth best of 2018 after Sanju, Padmaavat, Simmbam, 2.0 (Hindi) and Race 3.

The film’s blockbuster success surprised one and all as Tiger Shroff’s biggest grosser till then was Baaghi [77 crores] and this one more than doubled it up. No wonder, it instilled confidence in everyone associated with Baaghi that a franchise could be made out of it. Baaghi 3 had already been announced and post that work began soon after to scale it up even bigger. Ahmed Khan returned as the director and found a workplace for himself in the sprawling and swanky office of Nadiadwala Grandson where he had all studio like facilities made available to him.

Baaghi 3 was made soon after and released a few weeks back. In fact if not for the corona virus threat, it would have already gone past the 100 crores mark and scaled further heights. However that was not the case to be and hence it couldn’t emulate the blockbuster success that its predecessor, Baaghi 2, had enjoyed. Nonetheless, the film has done well enough to announce loud and clear all over again that as an action franchise by Sajid Nadiadwala and Tiger Shroff, Baaghi is there to stay and Ronnie will soon enough return with his latest adventure.
