10 True Stars Of 2010 By Komal Nahta

Some of them have been around for many years while some, for not so long. Some may just have debuted this year, that too, in very small films. But all of them have one thing in common – they lack the star status. And yet, they shone like true stars in the year gone by.

Sanjay Mishra:You’ve seen him in so many films since so many years and have always known him to be a fine actor. But his performance in Phas Gaye Re Obama still gladdened your heart, right?

Amol Gupte: If he can be as good in all his films as he was in Phas Gaye Re Obama, Amol Gupte should continue acting for however long. His dream to become a director – which remained unfulfilled in Taare Zameen Par, when Aamir Khan replaced him – can wait.

Aditya Roy Kapur: In both, Action Replayy and Guzaarish, Aditya Roy Kapur endeared himself to the public. Unfortunately, the films weren’t as endearing.

Ali Zafar: He made an endearing debut in Tere Bin Laden. He acted well and also danced well.

Pradhuman Singh: He played Laden in Tere Bin Laden so beautifully that it is difficult to imagine Pradhuman bin Laden.

Manu Rishi Chadha: He was so wonderful in Phas Gaye Re Obama that you felt bad to see him in a one-scene appearance the following week in Band Baaja Baaraat. But he needn’t lose heart. Genuine talent never goes unrewarded.

Ronit Roy: He may be the darling of the television viewers but Ronit Roy never made it on the big screen which is where he debuted. Yet, he left an indelible mark in Udaan in which he played the terrribly complexed father to perfection.

Randeep Hooda: Ekta Kapoor was never in favour of casting him in her Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai but director Milan Luthria was persistent. And Ekta must thank Luthria for his persistence. For, Randeep indeed made a lasting impression.

Omkar Das Manikpuri: He was so endearing and so natural in Peepli Live that you’d think he was a star. But Manikpuri had never faced the movie camera in his life, before he was cast in ‘Peepli Live’.
