She has worked with brands innumerous, debuted with Style way back in 2001, been on and off screen and has dashed back as a surprise package in Madhur Bhandarkar’s dream project, Heroine, Shillpi Sharma is looking forward to etching her mark in the tinsel town. Hailing from a political and business background, acting happened by chance with her, yet she has done quite a few films and is all set to take a long ride in the industry.
Being on and off screen, where had you been all these years?
Well ‘Style’ happened right after school & then I went straight to shooting for Jo Bole So Nihaal & since my family has a business & political background; they wanted me to complete my studies. I went on to complete my education. Being away from the industry was not easy but then I had a certain plan in my head & once I completed I came back but wasn’t getting anything concrete till I got Anees Bazmee’s Thank You & now Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine.

Acquaint us about your character in Heroine.

I can’t talk much about my role in the film as I am the surprise package of the film, but yes I am paired opposite Arjun Rampal. Heroine like everyone knows is an out & out Kareena Kapoor film, but it is a story of the stages that a heroine goes through & I am part of a very crucial phase of the heroine’s life. Once the audience sees the film, they will know what I am talking about.
Heroine is Madhur’s magnum opus; has put in a lot for making this film. How hard he was on sets?
Madhur is known for his near-realistic cinema, where he shows the insides of an industry, whichever it might be. Yes this has been his biggest project & he has put in a lot of energy & time to make sure it comes out the way he had visualized it. He is a very good director & has proved that time & again & to be someone to have earned that reputation one has to be seriously in love with their work & so is Madhur. He was harsh on the sets or anything like that but he knew what every scene was supposed to turn out like & he would make sure it did happen that way.
What are your priorities right now?
Acting is my priority but other than that I want to spend time with my mother as she gets a little lonely now.
