User Rating:

The Shaukeens album has been composed by various artists and is a mixed bag of hits and misses. The petite album of just six tracks is enjoyable with a couple of tracks hitting just the right notes. With overall peppy tracks, the album is decently enjoyable.

Alcoholic – The Shaukeens Music Review

Haan Main Alcoholic Hoon‘ is the Honey Singh number that is quite similar to his previous tracks such as ‘Sunny Sunny‘ or ‘Chaar Bottle Vodka‘. The song with its boozy lyrics will surely become popular and considering its party beats, it will soon be an addition to the club numbers. With EDM as its base, the song is quite enjoyable. Not one of the best numbers of the album but certainly a hummable one.

Manali Trance – The Shaukeens Music Review

True to its name, the song is completely successful in getting you into a trance. Crooned by Neha Kakkar, the song is an amazing dope number. While the song will remind you of Go Goa Gone‘s Slowly Slowly, this number takes the whole trance to another level. EDM is the mainstay in the music scene these days, what with popular international artists too taking up this genre.

Ishq Kutta Hai – The Shaukeens Music Review

This rock number is a treat for any Indian rock music lover. The bass guitaring is top notch and with a blend of Indian instruments topped with the Punjabi vocals of Mika Singh, this song is a high voltage number. Composed by Vikram Nagi, the song has all the quintessential rock ingredients such as the growl.

Meherbani – The Shaukeens Music Review

Meherbani composed by Arko is like a dessert, it’s sweet to the core. It is a typical love song. Jubin Nautiyal’s voice too works perfectly for this song. The song begins with a piano piece which itself is enough to make you fall in love with. While the song is not experimental per say but it is always nice to hear ‘feel good’ tracks.

Aashiq Mizaaj – The Shaukeens Music Review

The Hard Kaur song is quite repetitive and the first beat itself is something you have heard ample of times before. Though the song has power with all the hip-hop portions, it is not quite blending with the album. Even though Aman Trikha adds his own flavour to it, ‘Aashiq Mizaaj‘ does not get you into the ‘Aashiq’ mode.

Lonely – The Shaukeens Music Review

If you have missed the singing of composer Anu Malik for long, here is a treat for you. In his typical style, Anu has crooned ‘Lonely‘. As if the song was a nursery rhyme, it has cartoony vocals which hardly appeal to the ears. ‘Lonely’ – the word still gives me memories of the Akon classic and if this was carved out as an inspiration, it is highly disappointing.

The Last Word – The Shaukeens Music Review

The Shaukeens is an album that brings together various artists and their specialties. Tracks like ‘Alcoholic‘ or ‘Manali Trance‘ are hard to miss and will surely become party hits. While all the composers play safe and give us the tried and tested formula, there is no doubt that the songs are quite enjoyable. I am going with a 3/5 for this album.
