Tevar is an upcoming action drama starring Sonakshi Sharma and Arjun Kapoor. From the looks of it, the film which is a south remake would demand a ‘tadakta fadakta’ album but what we get is a dull one. There is nothing great about the Tevar soundtrack and minus a couple of tracks, you would want to miss listening to this one!
Superman is an energetic track that draws its most attention thanks to the mention of ‘Bhai’ i.e Salman Khan in it. Crooned by Wajid, the song has a good pace and quirky lyrics penned by Kausar Munir. The only problem is, in spite of hitting the right notes, it lacks the quality to really entertain you. It sounds repetitive and even though it may be the ‘attitude dekh’ song for Tevar‘s male lead introduction, it lacks the flair.
The last time we heard, ‘Music Bajega Loud, Toh Aunty Police Bulayegi’ and now ‘Music Bajega Loud Toh Radha Nachegi’. Well, whatever has happened to the good old days of sensible lyrics! Even though the song is high on energy and is peppy enough, it is not really enjoyable. I was bored half way listening to it. This is one of those songs that is a typical ‘radio number’.
Another additional disappointment to the album is ‘Madamiyan‘. The song sung by Mika Singh and Mamta Sharma is a typical Sajid-Wajjd number. The folk desi beats fall short of becoming a Munni Badnam Hui. The composers try a lot of musical arrangements with this one but that jumbles this song and hopefully if it is a treat to watch then the song may gain some popularity.
Finally a good track in the album and that’s certainly a relief! Sung by Shruti Haasan, the vocals are excellent and this track is no where close to being a regular romantic track. The composition has depth and this song picks up in specific portions which give a good lift to the lyrics. The confluence of western and classical is quite unique in this one. This song is nothing like a Sajid-Wajid composition and certainly a good effort on their part considering their mainstay is ‘desi masala’ numbers.
Main Nahi Jana Pardes is one song that is meant to be a soulful track but it quite rightly does not work its charm. A singer like Shafqat Amanat Ali has in the past given us songs that are unforgettable thanks to the connect they have but sadly ‘Main Nahi Jana Pardes‘ does not quite live up to it. The lyrics are meaningful but the music does not compliment them.
Let’s Celebrate is the highlight of this otherwise boring album. The song composed by Imraan Khan of ‘Amplifier’ fame is a good party track. With its techno beats, the song is sure to become popular in clubs. This song works like the ‘Honey Singh potion’ for the album since usually he gets the spicier numbers in the album.
I have to say I am not really a fan of remixes but this one was a relief. It is much better than the original and I feel it is the vocals of Mika Singh that give it the much needed push. This fast paced number sounds better and I personally feel Mika brings the required swagger and attitude for the lyrics.
The mashup is a completely unnecessary addition to the album, the composers could have rather come up with a better song. It also has a mix of dialogues from the film but that does not quite help it sound any better. Keeping it plain, if you don’t like the songs in the first place, why would you listen to its mashup?
The Tevar album is a complete disappointment and Sajid-Wajid fail to give even a single number that will force you to listen to it. It seems musically, the year has not been very impressive since, the last few albums of films such as Kill Dil, Action Jackson have been pretty dull. This one too lacks the charm. Unless you are listening to radio, you would not want to play any of the Tevar songs. ‘Joganiyan’ is the only song that gets my thumbs up, rest are easily passable. I am going with a 2/5 for this album.
