Star rating: 3/5 (Three Stars)

Music Director: Sachin-Jigar

Sachin-Jigar were just another music director duo but with Shuddh Desi Romance the team has ranked themselves higher than the general likes by working with the established YRF franchise. Mostly remembered for Go Goa Gone, the duo’s energy is what is the most wonderful thing about their music. It’s bold, refreshing, there is vibrancy in their romantic numbers. With this album the duo turn their music both experimental and boldly contemporary.

Tere Mere Beech Mein – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

Kicking off with Tere Mere Beech, the album starts with a whisk of music that is arranged beautifully. Largely a soft song, with smooth beats, it is paced moderately. I have to mention that the song has oodles of life to it that makes you feel young! Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Mohit Chauhan, the singers have voice that compliment each other wonderfully. My personal favorite from the album, this one did sprinkle some magic on me.

Gulabi – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

Gulabi is folksy and uses harmonium tunes predominantly. Sung by Jigar and Priya, the song blends the ethnic tunes in a contemporary bottle, serving it with some sparkling singing.

Chanchal Mann Ati Random – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

Chanchal Mann Ati Random isn’t a brilliant piece. But being the catchy number it is, don’t be surprised if you find yourself ranting the same. Enmeshing desi vibes with rock beats, it is quirky yet a good hear!

Shuddh Desi Romance – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

The film’s title track, however, didn’t impress me much. The lyrics are fine, so is the singing. But something goes wrong with the track, overall. Benny Dayal and Shalmali Kholgode are great singers, but the ‘different’ lyrics and ‘different’ tunes don’t do anything extraordinary.

Instumantal – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

Among the instrumental tracks, I was absolutely delighted by Mujhe Kiss Kar Sakte Ho that uses the best concoction of piano and guitar to create a compelling piece. The rest of them aren’t clamor but are mainly repetitive. Though there is fresh rhythm in most tracks, the folksy base of instrumentals lacks the imaginative bent.

The Last Word – Shuddh Desi Romance Music Review

Overall, Shuddh Desi Romance isn’t the fabulous album out of Bollywood. But it has effervescent energy and remains high of vigor for most part. I am going with a 3/5 for the album. It is nowhere near perfection and perhaps you can point out innumerable flaws in it. Nevertheless, it is a promising album with exciting and upbeat music.
