OMG Oh My God! is the next venture by Akshay Kumar as a producer hat. This time around he has adapted a famous Gujarati play and Paresh Rawal, who had acted in the play, is the central protagonist in the film too. This is a film that requires music to take the movie forward and Himesh Reshammiya has been roped in to do the job. Meet Anjjan Bros Lyrics by an assortment of writers are meaningful, expressive and devoid of casual words, something that one has got used to these days. Refreshing indeed!
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: Don’t Worry (Hey Ram)
Album begins with Don’t Worry (Hey Ram) which reminds the listener of the famous guitar strings from the song Dum Maro Dum. However the song takes a different course as it moves forward. Sung by Benny Dayal, Himesh Reshammiya and Arya Acharya, the song has a certain charm to it which makes it grow on the listener. Benny Dayal, who is on a high after Daaru Desi, has done a good job along with Himesh. Lyrics penned by Subrat Sinha go with the mood of the song and elevate it further. There is also a ‘remixed version’ of the song, which is very similar to the original other then being fast and has techno beats added in the background. Same team has sung the ‘remixed’ track as well and is a good foot tapping track.
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: Mere Nishaan
Mere Nishaan is the next track written by Kumaar and is sung by the talented Kailash Kher. Meet Bros Anjjan are the guest composers for this track. Lyrics are quite meaningful while heartfelt rendition enhances the overall effect. Kailash Kher has gone back to what he does best and can expect listeners to applaud him.
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: Tu Hi Tu
Veteran lyricist Sameer makes an entry with Tu Hi Tu sung by Mohd. Irfan. It’s a peppy song with fun beats in the background that also comprise of the famous tagline Hare Rama and Hare Krishna. Tu Hi Tu Reprise Version of the same song has Suraj Jagan of Give me Some Sunshine fame at the helm of affairs and his vocals elevate the song to another level. Though both the versions sound very similar, they are expected to take the story forward.
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: Tu Hi Tu (Unplugged Version)
Third version of the same song is Tu Hi Tu (Unplugged Version) which is sung by Ash King of Te Amo (Dum Maaro Dum) and Aunty Ji (Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu) fame. This version will be close to a lot of listeners, mainly because due to it’s unplugged format that lends raw melody to it. Last version of this song is the ‘remixed’ version. One would realize that there are 4 versions for the same track though one can give credit to Himesh Reshammiya for choosing the right track for the experimentation.

Go Go Govinda makes a much awaited entry in the album. Song has been played on all music channels for the last one month and has also achieved the hit status. Mika Singh and Shreya Ghosal have sung the song to perfection and the music is catchy and addictive. Song was launched near the festival ‘Janmashtami’ and portrays the long tradition of ‘Matki Phod’ celebrations. Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva have been able to capture the fun and essence of the act in their dance and emotions. There is also a ‘reprise version’ of the same by Shreya Ghosal along with Aman Trikha.

Hari Bol is a traditional folk track sung by Kirti Sagathia. Beginning of the track reminds one of the music of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam of which even Kirti Sagathia was a part of. It has the Gujarati folk beat blend with modern music which is attractive. Swanand Kirkire, who has captured the need and requirement of the track pretty well, has written lyrics. It would be interesting to see the picturisation of the track in the movie.

Album moves forward with the title track Oh My God which is nothing but the tagline Hare Rama Hare Krishna from Tu Hi Tu. After listening to the whole album one would agree for the aptness of the song for the purpose.
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: Krishna Theme
Album concludes with Krishna Theme composed by Meet Anjjan Bros. It’s an instrumental in flute played by Parash Nath who is from a dynasty of flautists (Son of Pandit Amar Nath) where the family tradition of dedication to the art of flute playing stretches back four centuries. The Indian flute has always been associated with the God Krishna, thus this was a perfect amalgamation. It’s a very soothing and divine track which itself would remind you of Lord Krishna.
OMG Oh My God! Music Review: The Last Word
Overall it’s an interesting album for a film which isn’t one of your quintessential Bollywood outings. Songs are as per the mood of the film and do engross the listener on quite a few levels. Though one can question the need of so many reprises and remixes, many of these do get justified. A good album which should help the film’s narrative.
