A.R. Rahman and the name is just enough. We are not being biased but merely complimenting the originality that traces the edges of this album. Names like Javed Ali, Shreya Ghoshal, Karthik and others raise expectations and we believe deliver too! The drama, Kochadaiiyaan, with its warfare nuances, correctly settled for a powerful theme for the entire music album.
Bol De – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Penned by none other than Irshad Kamil, it actually brings out the essence of the entire film. Credits for vocals go to Javed Ali. It is a semi classical fusion and the use of traditional instruments further enhances the effect of this motivational number. It also includes the recitation as a background score.
Aye Jawan – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Rahman himself and Raihanna lend their voices to this number. Credit for lyrics for this, yet another motivational number, goes to Mehboob. The use of chorus has been orchestrated wonderfully rendering a larger than life space to the entire music. It does not belong to any genre as such but is experimental Bollywood and improvises much on the use of instruments to build up a crescendo.
Dil Chaspiyan – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Jonita Gandhi and Arijit Singh come together for this classical number. It is a romantic composition and the lyrics for which has been penned by Irshad Kamil. Last time Kamil and Rahman had worked together for Raanjhanaa which was a successful album. Yet again, the use of traditional sound enhancers prevail to render an antique touch.
Vaada Vaada – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Shasha Tirupati is pure delight to listen to. Irshad Kamil makes for a fantastic creation and this could very well be the most romantic number in this part of the year in Bollywood. Hindustani Classical and especially the use of shehnai speak for itself. It is one of the most soothing songs amongst the others in the album.
Mera Gham – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Urdu and the rendition both make this number a commendable one. Shreya Ghosal successfully mesmerises yet again. As the music builds, the classical touch only gets further enhanced to bring forth a near perfect composition to listeners. Javed Ali is fantastic as the male counterpart as far as vocals are concerned.
Thandav – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Raqueeb Alam is the star of this cult presentation. The powerful yet devotionally surrendering lyrics alongside progressive experimental fusion bringing in both indigenous as well as classical genres make for a fantastic listening. This is also the title track to the movie.
Vaada Vaada – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Male version of the song, with Irshad’s lyrics, has come alive with Karthick’s voice. This is a semi classical song and makes for a good play at any time. Essentially romantic in fibre, the number does help in transporting you to a royal era or may be a far more mythical time.
Rana’s Dream – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
This is an instrumental and also works as a background score. Only after the release of the movie can one say if this is also the theme for the whole larger than life movie.
Aya Khwaab Ka Mausam – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
At lyrics we yet again find Raqueed Alam. Raghav Mathur add his voice however there is also the chorus to add character to this victory anthem. The song idolises warriors and automatically with the whole composition being extremely high in tempo, makes for a good guess to be the final song in the movie too as a summation number.
The Last Word – Kochadaiiyaan Music Review
Rajnikanth and Rahman, that must be the formula of everything beyond large. But that aside, it is a album that sports two specific trends, battle cries and anthems alongside absolute Bollywood romance. We would bet on the second one to be lasting.
