Sunny Deol’s movies have traditionally stood for action. However the fact remains that his debut film was the romantic Betaab. He is now exploring the romcom genre with Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao’s latest offering I Love NY. To complement Sunny, there is wild card Kangana Ranaut who made an odd ‘jodi’ successful not too long ago, case in point being Tanu Weds Manu where she had Madhavan for company. Since the film has a musical base to it, the makers have brought on board Pritam along with a horde of lyricists.

Gud Naal Ishq Mitha – I Love NY Music Review

Since it’s a Sunny Deol movie, there are no surprises that the album begins with the Punjabi fusion track Gud Naal Ishq Mitha in Tochi Raina’s voice. It is old wine in a new bottle with added flavour by lyricist Mayur Puri. Tochi’s voice mesmerizes in this overly popular track which had featured Malaika Singh and Jas Arora in the video.

Pritam takes the track further on with two more versions in Sukhwinder Singh’s voice. The singer explores the track in his voice and saves the authenticity of Punjabi style. In the ‘remixed version’ he uses pace with an element of rap to convince listeners into burning the dance floor. Honestly, all the three versions are fun and would soon be climbing charts all over again.

Aao Na – I Love NY Music Review

Sayeed Quadri pens the romantic ballad Aao Na, which comes next in the album and bears a dreamy turn. Sonu Nigam and Tulsi Kumar lend their voices to this passionate track which will definitely find takers as the composition is melodious and catchy. Tulsi’s husky and heavy voice, though a misfit for some heroines, seems to be fitting Kangana’s image, if not the voice. There is a ‘remix version’ of the same with a beginning which will remind the listener of Sting’s Desert Rose.

Judaai – I Love NY Music Review

Guest composer, singer and lyricist Falak Shabbir makes an entry with a solo romantic track Judaai. A melodic track which would find its listeners, it is also heard in a ‘remix’ and then an ‘unplugged version’ which is heart warming and displays the emotions effectively.

Halki Halki – I Love NY Music Review

Another romantic turn comes in the form of an exciting and enjoyable track Halki Halki which is heard in Shaan and Tulsi Kumar’s voice. It’s a light hearted track with foot tapping rhythm and fun lyrics. Later, a ‘remix version’ promises to do well too with the youngsters.

Aaja Meri Jaan – I Love NY Music Review

Last but not the least is the track Aaja Meri Jaan in Mauli Dave’s voice. It is a smooth and sensuous track, which will take you back to an era where vocals used to rule the tracks. It’s a kind of song which makes the listener drown in melody. Composition is subtle however very effective as it creates the right atmosphere and gives the appropriate platform to the singer. Huskiness in Mauli’s voice would be an interesting combination with Kangana’s open and outrageous self. Just like all other songs, this one too has a ‘remix’ though it does make one wonder if there was a need for the same. Ultimately, it’s this original track, which is based on R.D. Burman’s tune for the namesake film ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’, which continues to play in your mind.

The Last Word – I Love NY Music Review

Over all, the album has all the ‘masala’ and variety, which is required in a romantic comedy. There is dance flavour with Gud Naal Ishq Meetha, fun with Halki Halki, romance in Aao Na, longing with Judaai and sensuousness in Aaja Meri Jaan. One would not be surprised to see these tracks climbing charts steadily & consistently in the coming days and lending the movie the much needed exposure.
