When the teaser of Ek Tha Tiger was launched, there was all around frenzy in the world of web. It continued with the release of each and every snippet that was floated post that. Now, when the music has released, there is a lot of curiosity and interest, especially amongst Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif fans.
Also, there are certain expectations since this is a Yash Raj production which is known for its good understanding of music. Not to mention director Kabir Khan who had ensured a hit music album for ‘New York’ despite the film being a thriller. No wonder, there are quite some good hopes that one has from the album. While listeners are expecting something big in the offering here, composer Sohail Sen (of ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ fame) and guest composers Sajid-Wajid have been roped in to create magic along with various lyricists.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: Mashallah
Album opens with Sajid-Wajid’s Mashallah (also appearing in a ‘remix’ version), which was officially launched by YRF just a few days back along with a press conference. Though much has been said and written about the song, musically it does not live up to the listener’s expectations. Visually though it is expected to be a treat, courtesy Salman’ famous dance moves and some sensual moves by Katrina. Wajid and Shreya Ghoshal render this track but don’t quite offer anything unique to the listener. The song, as the promos suggest, has been shot in a Middle Eastern setting and hence an Arabian/Persian influence in lyrics (by Kausar Munir) as well as the music.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: Laapata
From this point on composer Sohail Sen takes over and his first offering is Laapata, a fast, vivacious romantic track, which helps in lifting one’s spirits. It has a lively beat to it with an inspiration from Spanish/Mexican music that captures one’s attention and pulls you in, especially when the ‘remix version’ comes calling. KK and Palak Muchhal are supported well by a chorus, hence creating an energetic environment which audience could possibly enjoy, provided there is right picturisation. Anvita Dutt has penned the lyrics, which live up to the mood since there is a touch of Spanish in it, hence lending an authentic feel.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: Banjaara
Banjaara communicates well with the audience and definitely is en route to be a chartbuster. Sukhvinder Singh is an apt choice here as his voice takes the song to another level and complements the music. Neelesh Mishra’s lyrics are again just the kind that go with Salman’s image and aid in making his character self-explanatory. More so, when Jolly (from Joshilay) takes over the proceedings in the ‘remix version’.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: Saiyaara
Mohit Chauhan, who is now pretty much a constant in all music albums of repute, makes his entry in Ek Tha Tiger with Saiyaara where Tarannum Malik is his co singer. While he has done justice to his inclusion, it is Tarannum’s hauntingly passionate deep voice which strikes the chord. Kausar Munir’s lyrics add to the song and give it a rich meaning with the usage of poetic words, case in point being the very title ‘saiyaaran’, which means ‘planet’ in Urdu. A delight to the ears, the song should be a success, what with chemistry of Salman and Katrina doing further wonders.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: Tiger’s Theme
Album moves ahead with ‘Tiger’s Theme’ which is composed by Julius Packiam. As the title suggests, it is the signature sound for the protagonist and is all set to accentuate the background score, more so since it is a pretty interesting mix and hence catchy. Julius has always been associated with Kabir Khan’s movies, right from ‘Kabul express’ to ‘New York’ days. Now yet again his theme track manages to capture the essence of the plot and need of the character.
Ek Tha Tiger Music Review: The Last Word
The album is good though in hindsight one does feel that it isn’t something extraordinary that one had expected from a combination as solid as YRF, Kabir Khan and Salman-Katrina. One somehow feels that the album doesn’t really go all the way. Of course it is not a downer either since overall Sohail Sen manages a constant theme to it and doesn’t stray, hence allowing a consistent sound. However a couple of more chartbusters would have done further wonders to the album.
