Drishyam starring Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran in key roles is all set to release on 31st July. The thriller has already gathered ample of buzz thanks to its intriguing trailer. While one would expect a film of such nature to be low on its musical quotient, the Drishyam album is a short four track album and clearly quality rules over quantity in this case. Composed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the album has his signature style.
The first song in the album is ‘Kya Pata‘. Reading Arijit Singh’s name in credits does not excite me anymore considering that he has atleast one song in every film these days. Of course with this song, there is a completely different touch that he brings. Bhardwaj composes this song with minimum instruments and the bass guitar use is quite similar to Haider‘s compositions. Nonetheless, the song is a beautiful rendition.
Ash King’s voice has a certain beauty and that is what makes this song a cute number. The specialty of this song is its lyrics penned by the veteran lyricist Gulzar. Musical arrangements are fresh and peppiness of the song blends well with Ash King’s voice.
Kab Kahan Se‘s start will remind one of Haider‘s ‘Aao Na‘. The song is another version of ‘Kya Pata‘ which includes a chorus and has been sung by KK. If Kya Pata is a low key number, Kab Kahan Se has a high pace. KK’s vocals work excellently for this song but if compared, Kya Pata seems better as a slow number.
Two veteran singers come together for this track. Rekha Bhardwaj and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan croon Dum Ghutta Hai and one truly feels the agony of the lyrics. The mid portions of flute and guitar are brilliant. Dum Ghutta Hai surprises you with its musical arrangements. Towards the end, there is a magnificent guitar piece which comes at an unexpected point in the song. Overall a nice number that blends well with the storyline of the film and could prove to be a good situational number.
The soundtrack of Drishyam is a four track album composed by Vishal Bharadwaj and has his signature style all over it. If you have liked the Hiader soundtrack, this one too will impress you. I am going with a 3.5/5 for this album.
