Dolly Ki Doli starring Sonam Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pulkit Samrat and Varun Sharma is all set to be a roller coaster ride. The film’s music is a five track album composed by Sajid-Wajid. Not extraordinary, but a repetitive attempt with non-experimental musical arrangements.
Phatte Tak Nachna is a peppy dance number that is a typical wedding dance track. Sunidhi Chauhan with her bright vocals gives the song an electrifying energy. Composed by Sajid-Wajid, the song has all the elements to become a hit in the wedding season. It is a perfect ‘sangeet’ track so tighten your Ghagras and dance on this upbeat number.
Every album needs an item song and for Dolly Ki Doli is Fashion Khatam Mujhpe. After hearing this one, I would say that Sajid-Wajid do not exactly have a knack for composing item songs anymore as they have now become highly repetitive. I am tired of listening to Mamta Sharma sing the same way. This song didn’t work for me, I was expecting much more from it.
Comedy Nights With Kapil created a huge popularity for the phrase ‘Babaji Ka Thullu‘. Using this as the selling point, Dolly Ki Doli makers came up with a song with the same lyrics. Well, it certainly didn’t work. The music is too jumbled in this song. This song is a classic case of ‘when cool lyrics’ go wrong!
The title track of Dolly Ki Doli is quite enjoyable. It is a fast paced and energetic number. Divya Kumar is emerging like the new Sukhwinder Singh and has an amazingly bright voice. He infuses a lot of energy into the song and that along with its fabulous musical arrangements is giving it a good blend. Listening to the song, it seems more like a montage track that shows the varied picture of Dolly and her Dolis.
Mere Naina Kaafir Hogaye is the slow morose track from Dolly Ki Doli. Sung by legendary singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, the song has good lyrics and is soulful enough. Although I would have to admit that all Rahat Fateh Ali Khan songs are quite the same, this one too may be a little something that you have heard before.
The Dolly Ki Doli album is not exceptional in its entirety but has a few good tracks. My picks from the album are Phatte Tak Nachna and Dolly Ki Doli title track. Overall Sajid-Wajid give us an average album and I am going for a 2.5/5 for this album.
